Tradition meets creativity
Tis the season to get creative! Try something a little new this Christmas and have fun with friends and family in the process. Whether it’s your table setting, Christmas tree or decorations, read our tips and tricks to create a unique and personal Christmas setting.
Ornaments
Don’t be afraid to mix the new with the old this Christmas, for example some second-hand purchases or family heirlooms. We used vibrant candles, a vintage nutcracker and glass ornaments with a Christmas colourway. Once you’ve gathered a number of special ornaments that mean something to you, have fun with their arrangement, the options are endless. As a little tip, mix and match the height of ornaments when arranging, this will add interest. Odd numbers work very well too, so ornaments grouped as a three is a good place to start.
Mix up your crockery
Throw out the rulebook! Forget ‘matchy-matchy’ everything and start mixing colours, textures and new with old. Your grandma’s pudding bowl could look fantastic paired with the latest gold cutlery or more minimalist tableware. We used different plates, glasses and materials so it’s less symmetrical and more playful. You’ll surprise yourself with how vibrant and interesting your new dinner table setting will be. You can pull it all together by sticking to a colour scheme with one or two dominant colours.
Repurpose
Turning bowls and glasses upside down can reveal surprising new uses. We used glass bowls and saucers to make unique candle holders. Fruit and vegetables like onions can make for unusual place card holders for example. The key thing is to look at things available in your kitchen in a completely new way.
Floral installation
We brought the Christmas tree to the dinner table with a hanging floral decoration featuring some festive tinsel. This took centre stage for our Christmas decoration and where better to place this than the dinner table - the one place family and friends come together to eat, drink and have fun together. Perhaps your Christmas tree could have a different location or look this year? Most importantly, have fun and let nothing block your creativity!
